Check with your school district first. Ours has a policy of not chartering groups - scout or otherwiste.

Firing Up for Fun - our school has charters our local troop & pack for 51 years. We proudly accepted our charter certificate last night at our meeting and love having that relationship with the scouts. They come through for us for our projects and they earn their badges as well. I encourage all PTO's to charter a scouting group to show community spirit and positive mentoring.

Not 100% sure, but my suspicion (and strong recommendation) would be not to do that.

Hi FUF --

Local PTO can decide. If you use the search feature (on the main site or here on the message boards) and the words "charter scouts", then you'll likely find several good discussions on this topic. Feel free to jump in there. if you reply to an old thread, it immediately brings that thread back to current.

Are there guidelines the PTO must follow in order to sponsor another group such as scouting, or can the local PTO decide how to sponsor?
