What happens if you have no President?

Yep, LUV is right. Most people won't come up to you and say, "Gosh, I would just love to be president next year. And I would be so good at it too!" Mostly it's them thinking they could do an OK job of it but are too shy or self-conscious to actually say it out loud. It's more to do with you seeing potential in someone and then convincing them that they can do it. Sometimes it just takes someone to ask. Lots of people (women) think it's arrogant to say they can do something well. But if they're approached with a "you would be great and we'll help you" they're more likely to say yes. It sounds manipulative, and maybe it is, but lots of folks just need that nudge.

Northeast Mom is right on too about recruiting kindergarten parents. Nobody is more emotionally invested in their kids school than kindergarten parents! We're all emotionally invested but those new parents are absolutely manic about it. They can be tremendous as committee chairs or even officers and have plenty of years ahead of them to work their way up to the top spot.

Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for awhile and leave footprints on our hearts. And we are never, ever the same."

You don't have to recruit just from the kindergarten parents-look around you, is there someone you know who would make a great President? Tell them that and then ask them if they would take it on. Also, have you thrown out the option of two people taking the job together? Knowing that they wouldn't be going it alone can help some people take that leap into leadership. I know there are some people who aren't fans of the co-Prez thing, but it can work if the two people communicate well and clearly define what each one's role will be.

Try the soon to be Kindergarten class. At Kindergarten sign-up, have your table out there, too. Talk to the parents, tell them the problem, and find a volunteer from them. Their children will be in school the longest, and when you get them fresh, they're likely to stick it out longer. That's how I became president, my youngest is in Kindergarten and I asked the Prinicpal about our PTO. The rest is history ... As long as they get some help and know what to expect, there should be at least a couple of parents willing to take on the positions. Good Luck!! ;)

Our current President, which is myself, is stepping down at the end of the year. We are still searching and have had no luck as of yet. What do we do if no one wants the job. We are having the same problem finding a Secretary also. Any advice!!! Thanks, LR
