Some shcools disallow ALL parent volunteers, full stop, even public schools. The reasons are for the benefit of the children. So that at least, can be seen as a positive. Maybe look at it that way, there is something you dont know about the reasons behind the policy. Try to find out why, and if they cant tell you, chances are they are doing the right thing for the right reasons, and your kids are for the better for it. I cant imagine they are trying to 'stick it to the parents' that just sounds not plausible. Its more likely they are doing it for the benefit of the CHILDREN.

I am not referring to the top post here. Maybe some schools prefer no parents around because they are simply too much to handle....see the Today Show clip referenced over in the social thread today...

PS at our school they run not only background checks, but other sorts of checks (you have to sign off that is OK for them to do, and if you dont sign, you cant volunteer) Iam sure a parent could demand to see the infos they collected on you if they ever refused your offer to volunteer - i would think by law they would have to.
Thats the kind of confidential info i mean, info they can release to the individual in questin, but NOT to third parties.

I agree, its not a great policy. I dont know of a list.
I think these kinds of policies are rare and are either based on a lack of trust on the part of the district, or school, in (a subset of) parents at the school or the school doesnt have policies in place (or doesnt have the resources or desire to set up some) for manageing its volunteers, so they would rather avoid the issue altoghether.

Is there a list of schools like this??? I dont want my kids going there.... NO Volunteers equals a school that isnt worth a squat. (Confidential?? If I cant volunteer I better be given A GOOD explanation as to why)
