We have an actual business sponsoring our new event center with an agreement throught the school to use the event center for their monthly meetings, advertising in school newsletter, large banners on the school XYZ presents our school name event center and a couple other fun things. THis took lots of negotions and meetings to work through but large businesses and companies are open to great business opputunites.
I am at a charter school and what that is, is a school that has a chater/contract with the school district or State Dept of Ed that allows us to offer a different circulum. Biggest down side is the lack of funding we recieve versus the public funded schools. SO we have learned alot about grants, scholarships, donations, okay...begging for funds! My best advise right now is to look for programs that anyone can participate ie grocery card payback; Target card payback; BOx Tops; ink cartriges or cell phone recycling...the list is huge! Now all these are not going to get you 1000's the first year but that $100 check spends just as good! Our school also is very diverse in it's income level. We have really both sides of the tracks (bad way to put it but I hope you see where I'm going) so I like to find ways I can include everyone. I know my "better off" families love Target and shop often using their Target card or even my online shoppers make some money for us. For our lower income families they can still use their Albertson's card for store dicounts and we see a small percent back. Another mom and I love to coupon shop for cereal! I have 5 kiddos and she has a blended family of 7 so we are both looking for cereal and love it when we can use our Albertson cards to et money back to school, clip the Box tops AND pay less than $10 for 6 boxs of cereal!! It's an illness!
Anyway, with a little research and sometime it can work!
I don't know if it is national but I know it seems to be a big deal in GA. We had a form we had to get each Partner to sign. It listed what they were offering to us, and what we would do in return. Most places gave a one time monetary donation, some are places we can go to when we need something and make a request, others are spirit nights, for eating or skating or movies, and they will give a percentage of profits. In return, we have a large sign in front of our school saying who are sponsers are, and we add them to our newsletters and yearbook. For those who do spirit nights, we will send home reminders with the parents and a form for them to take into the business. Usually it is just something that says I am a Hornet and a line for the amount of their, a line for their childs grade and class. We sometimes do class contests. The cashiers keep the reciepts seperate from others, and at the end of the night the managers figure the amounts and we get a percentage. A lot of places will make a large one time donation to our school and that will be it for the year, but their name will go on the sign and in letters, so they get free advertising basically. I hope I explained this thoroughly. My kids have extra's over today and they are all running around a little crazy right now.

Is the Partner in Education a national program, state or local. What does it entail?

Our vice prencipal is in charge of getting partners in ed each year, but this year, since we were out getting donations for the PTO, we handled some of that also. We went to local businesses and set up things like Spirit Nights, where they donate a percentage of the profits. We have 1 per week at a variety of places, (DQ, ChickFil A, CiCi's) so that parents have some variety.
For fundraisers, have you thought about Spirit items? As a parent, I would rather buy something like that (school shirts are great) that my kid can wear than some more gift wrap or cookie dough. Our school is low income, and spirit wear was a huge hit this year. We offered shirts, hats, and a different shirt for teachers. Check your local T-shirt places and you may find a great deal. We had a sample made up and took pre-orders and the printer charged by the amount of hte order--the more orders we got, the lower the price. We also sold shirts to DQ, ChickFila and Cici's for them to wear on our sprit nights. And don't forget to sell to the bus drivers, after school people and the cafeteria ladies.
Have you tried Market Day? We make around $400.00 amonth from that. Plus we do the boxtops/Campbell's labels program. We make around $2,000.00 a year from that.WE do 2 fund raisers a year. This year we tried Auntie Annes Pretzels, We did'nt do so well with them they are pretty pricey. For the spring we goine to try Market Day pies. Last year we worked with Sally Foster and made a great profit, plus they do all of the work it is a great company for first timers. Good Luck!
