Ideas for Box Tops Market Place PLEASE!

17 years 11 months ago #116090 by ScottMom#1
We do a weekly "store" where students can exchange their Box Tops for prizes. The usual cost is 1-4 Box Tops and the items are either donated or leftovers from other misc events. We try to do one class "war" at the beginning of the year for a pizza party just to pull in the Tops saved over the summer before the fall turn in date. We have one parent who coordinates this and spends roughly 3 hours a week.

The irony of commitment is that it’s deeply liberating-in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life. --Anne Morris

That's a great idea. I was wondering what type of prizes we could give as a "motivational nudge" to get more Box Tops coming in this year ... Thank you!

At our new school, a note came home saying that boxtops are collected and that each time a student turns in 25 boxtops they get a 50 cent snack coupon. They have snack time every morning (in 7th grade?!?!?) and the prices range from 50 cents to one dollar. They also have the choice of bringing in their own snack from home. But, it sure is nice to know that the boxtops I'm clipping anyway will earn some snack coupons!

Thank you for the heads up on the Box Tops Visa. I was considering it, but I guess I'll stick to using the CC's I all ready have - I'd rather not deal with a hassle!

Just an FYI: a lot of talk on the coordinator's forum/message boards says don't bother with the BoxTops Visa. It seems to be a lot of hassle, especially with getting the amounts credited to your school. The consensus seems to be to focus on clipping the BoxTops and encouraging people to shop on the Marketplace with other credit cards. Something as simple as a flyer listing the BoxTops eligible products may be enough to get people to send in their old BoxTops (they're good for 3 years), then step in to assist the teacher with counting them and shipping them off and she'll probably let you run with the whole thing :)

Wow, this was very interesting. I'm like you, Doodlebug, a teacher at my child's school handles boxtop collections and there was only one letter sent home the entire year about this. I collected them, but I'm not sure how many other parents did. I'll have to see how many were collected throughout the entire year and then maybe make some of these suggestions. Our's is through our Title 1 program, so I don't think the PTO could take it over. Thank you all for the suggestions!
