Presidential Duties???

18 years 3 weeks ago #115568 by my3strongtikes
We have the bylaws, But what do you actually do as president.
Like the newsletters, flyers for events, running meetings, setting agendas for meetings. ALl that stuff what are you responsible for the nuts and bolts of it. If you had to put on a resume all your duties as PTO pres what would you put that kind of thing. This will also help me too for future presidents coming up that are interested and they ask "exactly do you do" I know the answer can't be everything. LOL

Yeah, ScottMom is right.

President's Job = Anything and Everything.

My group's bylaws say:

The president shall preside at all PTO Board meetings. The President is an ex-officio member of all committees, except the Nominations Committee. The President shall appoint all committees and shall designate a chairman of such committees subject to Board approval.

It's that 'ex-officio member' part that kills!!! Also, even though you're only one vote, you are the leader of the team and everyone else will look to you for leadership and direction. What kind of (and how much) leaderhsip and direction you provide depends entirely on your management style and the makeup of your group.

Our bylaws say something really generic like preside over meetings, set agendas, and oversee all PTO functions.
Which to me means, be the one that tries to wade through the muck at the meetings, try to establish where your group is going and what the goals are for your term, and make sure that events go smoothly and as many people are happy as much of the time as possible.
In all honesty, it just depends on what you want for your group, what your school needs, how much help you have, and how much you are willing to give.
HAVE FUN!!!!!

The irony of commitment is that it’s deeply liberating-in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life. --Anne Morris
