i know it sounds like we are all being hard on your school for this but it was all handled wrong and my best advice to you guys would be to go and apolgize to that mom and tell her ahe is more them welcomed to come back even if she says no at least you know that you tried to fix the situation and can say when you are wrong..

Renee is right "The principal should never had said anything."
Doesnt much matter what the conviction was for, if it was for reasons that would prevent a parent from working with kids at school, then that is for theprincipal to handle directly and privately with the parent ie : forbid working at school.
telling other parents about it is plain old fashioned GOSSIPING and nothing more. it is up to the school to take preventive measures and not each parent.
there is something to be learned by the parents at that school about how their head of school treats personal information with other parents.

I guess it would depend on what she was convicted of and is on probation for. As long as it wasn't abuse or csc then Everyone deserves a second chance. It seems she is allowed on school grounds and in the school so how is this a pto matter. The principal should never had said anything. If the principal felt it was a problem then he/she should of addressed the parent in question and resolved it between them then let the parent save face. It really is noone's business but the parent and the administration. Everyone does deserve a second chance. It sounds like she's trying to put her life back on track and being involved with her child.

crewchief nailed it again (dont mean to embarrass you!!!)

"She's already been tried, judged, convicted and punished. Why does it need to go any further than that?"

If whats been posted is all there is , then yes, it would seem her 'conviction' in the court of public opinion (ie - IF the principal revealed this matter unneccessarily to the parent body/PTO) is ultimately far worse than her 'legal' conviction if there was one, and is a conviction that will NEVER go away, and one that might follow her and her children thru til theyre out of that school system. what innocent child deserves THAT kind of rap?????

godwin nails it too "shame on your principal"

talk about lack of common sense. it doesnt get more ironic than that, for someone whose job it is to promote the welfare of children.

(all above said of course, not knowing ALLLLLLL the facts but only whats been presented in these posts!)

i think that is pretty sad how it was handled and imagine how that mother felt i agree with others that if this had nothing to do with abuse then that mother had the right to be involved.and shame on your princible for not going and talking to that mother face to face instead of getting the pto involved because you guys can not even do anything about it except make that mother feel bad
