ditto to serendipitys comments about our local church daycare..they run a yrly donation - flea market for fundraising, but thats about it. self funded in general. no pto. no volunteer help.

We have a church run day care here that has been around for many years and is the biggest one in our town. They are a non profit group and as such they do no fundraising. Everything is covered by the tuition that is paid. They do take 2 small field trips a year with a minimal cost that the parents pay for if their kid is attending. Otherwise they do have a school board (not a PTO/PTA). It is made up of the Pastor, the school director, 2 church members, and two parents of students.

There's a lot of variety, but when you get into private facilities - especially church-related - it's often a whole different world.

A church school (or daycare) parent group is often seem more of a volunteer committee with final decisions and funding controlled by the church. Then again, maybe it is set up to be independent like you typically see in a public school setting.

The important thing is to determine what was intended and who controls which decisions. There's no right or wrong model, but lack of communication can play cause chaos.

When my kids were in church pre-school, we parents sometimes helped with fundraising or activities. But we knew we were 'helping', not running things.

DO PTO HAVE BY-LAWS AND A CONSTITUTION, IF SO SHOULD A CHURCH OWN AND OPERATED DAYCARE HAVE THE SAME?
