Office Nomination HELP!!!

ok here is my 2 cents.... hope it isnt too late. If the one that was nomiatied for Tresurer does not want the postion (or anyone for that matter) than you can NOT nomitate them! i suggest a copy of Roberts Rule of Order if you need help figureing out what should be done and whatnot, but from what i know (i'm on the nomitaing committee for my PTA) first you research and see who is best for each spot, then you ASK THEM if they would take the spot if elected, if not you must choose someone else. if so then it goes on. now here is another thing, if you havent done the election yet (you probrally have by now) but if not, then the one that WANTS to do the job can stand up when they get to the postion she wants and nominate herself -or someone can nominate her..(unless your bylaws say otherwise) you can take nomitations from the floor during the election and as long as they quailfy for that postion than they can run for it, you can nominate more than one person for a postion, you will jsut have to do a ballot vote for it rather than a voice vote if there is more than one candidate. I say though that if she will forgive your group for not putting her in there 1st, and accept a postion, than your group should really let her have a postion! she sounds like a great asset to your group. it also sounds like you have a small board... jsut a fyi, we have a school of 500 and our board is, President, 1st vice- bylaws, 2nd vice-membership, 3rd vice-fundraising, 4th vice-programs, recording secretary, coorespondce secretary, and tresurer, plus this next year we are adding a lot of committee chairs, which is somthing we have not had in the past. so anyway, there are more postions than just 5 that can be board postions, if your PTA is able to add them than you could put her in one and keep the others and have a soluation!! just a thought....lol

So sorry but I could not follow this post.
You seem to desperately to want some advice.

Can you paraphrase the above so it makes more sense??

Just a stab at advice: You need to set up a slate with everyone's name and what they want to do. If there are 2 or 3 people who want VP, then there is a run off election. What about co-chairing a position? Would that work for the women who's feelings have been hurt?

Here's one for the record books - maybe it has come up before - but boy do I have an issue! What would you do if....

Last night at our PTA meeting the slate for the 2006/2007 officers was presented. Leaving out one very involved parent and including two parents that have attended some meetings. The parent who WANTS to be included has missed 2 meetings in 2 years. The parents included attend regularly, but not as often nor do they participate as much as the parent not included. The parent who WANTS to be included has her name posted on every event and has chaired many. The parents included have chaired one or two events -one that hasen't happened yet.

There is a nominating process - now just about the entire slate has offered to step down so the parent who was not included can step in - but now the parent who WANTS to be included doesn't want to do it at all --- are you still with me???? It's all very confusing and dramatic (hense the nickname). There's so much more to post - but I'm not sure I'll have enough room. I am going to keep going....

The "Nominating Committee" was approached by 3 of us (one being the women who is very hurt but the deicsion), me (I will be the recording secretary), one other woman (Jane**, is President), are the only out of the 5 nominated that are going to keep with our current nominations, (Lori**, has offered to withdraw as Vice President - stating that it will be too much with her work load and wasn't thinking when she expressed interest) (Becky**, treasurer has also stepped up to say that due to personal reasons she cannot accept the nomination -- this is the person who never expressed interest in any position) The final position that the was presented was "Auditor" which is to audit the books once a year. This is the position that the VERY involved parent was nominated for - and she feels it was a smack in the face - with good reason - the person who didn't express interest should be the one to hold that position.

I guess I'm looking for a solution as to how to get my board back on track. We are so LUCKY to have interested members, I understand that! We do so much for our kids - and no one wants t o purposely hurt anyone's feelings. And that is what this has turned into. Now the nominating committee is complaining that they worked hard and no one should step down....but we have 2 who do not want to do it and the one who WANTED to do it no wanting to do it anymore --- I should also mention that the parent who WANTS to be included is mentioned in all of the minutes of every meeting - making motions/suggestions/solving problems.....etc. etc. etc.

      I'M COMFUSED! If you were able to follow along - I would appreciate ANY input!
Thanks!

ps - the names have all been changed to protect feelings
