Good luck definitely. You have to watch out for pop up ads on the free sites--we only pay 90 bucks a year so the investment is worth it to us. The tool however, is really fabulous...d

I have found a PTO web page that is using BLINKZ.com. So far I like what I have seen on there. But I don't know if this will work the way I want it too. I want to be able to UPDATE when and as often as needed. It has taken the schools almost 2 years to get their web pages off and running. I don't want to have to wait on mine. But I also have 3 principals to answer too. Which sometimes stinks!! They don't aways agree. We'll see. Wish me luck!

We also have our own at brentpto.com. We sell advertising space in our newsletter and the money we make is what we use to pay for the site. It is well received and we get quite a few hits on it. It helps that we have a webmaster that has a child going to the school. She does an awesome job....d

We have our own separate from the school. We then have full control of the site and can update as needed. We advertise the school's and our's on newsletters & info that goes home with the kids.

Part of the problem is the time it takes to update the school's site with the parameters they must meet. I would talk with your principal just to let him know what you are doing and hopefully s/he would be willing to link.

At our school our coordinating council (all the pto's in our school district) said that we could have website with all school information if it had message boards or anything like that we couldn't put it on the school website. Just because if anything was said that could be misconstrued they didnt want parents blaming the school. Where if it was seperate that wouldn't be their problem.
I just set up a yahoo account which so far is working well for us. I can get the messages out to parents but I have it set up so that their is no message board. I have the calendar set up and things like that but nothing fancy.

Good Luck

Cindy

I am interested in getting a web page for our PTO group. I have found a free website that we could use. But it this wise or should we do a web site through the school? I found this free site while searching GOOGLE of PTO sites. So I know that SOMEONE has used this.

I guess I'm asking if I should get permission first from the schools or as President just go ahead and get a site going.

What do you think??
