We use Kash for Kids, and have had no problems with them.

Thank you Melissa for the idea. I saw the ink cartridge recycling one in the PTO Today Magazine. Have you used it? If so which one did you use? I was thinking about the Kash for Kids. If anyone out there has used on successfully could you let me know?

We started our 5th grade fundraising at the beginning of school this year with gourmet lollipops. They cost .50 each, and we make .25. Our 5th graders sell them at every function, during lunch, and our secretary has a display sitting on her desk so anybody who enters our building sees them. I know that this doesn't help you for this year, but maybe it's an idea for next.

Another thing that you might try, is to have a restaurant fundraiser night with all proceeds going to the 5th grade fund. That way the parents won't have to sell anything, and they can enjoy a night of no cooking. If you have a Wendy's in your area, contact them. They give 10% of ALL receipts (drive-thru, dining room and carry out) and not just from those who specify that they are there for your school.

Maybe do ink cartridge recycling if your PTO or school isn't already doing it. That is another easy way to earn money fairly quickly.

Oh, the cost without a fundraiser is $30 per student. Due in increments of $10 a month.

We did send a letter home with a breakdown of the costs of everything down to the bus. We have explained that if we don't get the money there will be no activities for students. We are trying the contribution letter to companies next and hoping for the best. Thanks for everyone's comments.

Same problem at my school, apathy. We have decided to ask a mom and a dad (not necessarily in the same family) to be the "spokesperson" for their child's class on planning Fifth Grade Promotion activities. Since we've only got 4 classes, it should be pretty simple. (Keep your fingers crossed!) Great idea about the letter.
