PTO Involvement in School Board Decisions

PTO Involvement in School Board Decisions was created by Dorothy Christine
Our PTO is being pushed by some parents to get deeply involved in a "debate" with the local school board over their recent decision to restructure our elementary schools. Our school principal and, of course, officials with the school board say it is not a PTO's place to take a stand on a controversial issue such as this one. To this point, I have attempted to uphold that belief, but I am not completely sure that is an unbiased opinion of what our responsiblities are. Most of the parents and teachers at our school are against the restructuring, so it is difficult to not have an opinion. Any advice on how to handle such a situation or thoughts on what a PTO's role should be.
