Background Check?

4boys&2girls, I live in the next county over from where Jessica died. The effects of the new law were not bad, just not reviewed/explained fully enough. Some parents moaned and groaned, but for the most part every one seemed to understand. It did cause a back log for our volunteer coordinator, some stress with our fall festival where we use High School students, and a lot of parents for volunteers, but everything worked out in the end.

It is also required in our district too. I believe some schools do it some don't. I think it is a good idea. Better safe than sorry.

After we a little girl abducted and killed by a school contractors employee, it is MANDATORY that ALL people who have contact or are employeed by a school contractor have a background check and fingerprinted. (Jessica Lunsford Act) Even if you are the PTO/PTA ect. Treasurer or if you handle any money you must do this.

It really hasn't affected us to bad. We all want our kids to be in a safe place.

In our District in Florida it's about $64.00 for 5 years validation. Then you must renew.

Our Volunteer Coordinator handles all this.

Our district has yet to require this but starting this year they do require an application to eb filled out and notorized to be kept at district office. at any time they can pull them out and require a check...it isn't necessarily a bad thing.

We have done background checks in our district for some years now. It is too ensure that you don't have a convicted pedifile, drug pusher, ax murder, etc. around innocent children. This is a hot topic in some cases but agree with the process. This is only done for people who are going to be working or volunteering. I am pretty sure it has been KY law for a while.

We work with the business office at our school in regards to background checks.
Our school was one of the first to ask our volunteers to have one before volunteering.

I'm used to it and have even had one for our church and attended a Protecting God's Children seminar to volunteer. It's one of many changes the Catholic church is making with all members that work with children. I honestly would love to see the program inegrated into schools.
