YES PTO HAS A PRESIDENT, VICE, SEC,TRES. OUR PTO CONTROLS ALL OUR MONEY IT DONT GET SPENT UNLESS WE AGREE ON IT. THE ONLY PEOPLE CAN SIGN OUR PTO CHECKS R PRES, TREAUSRE BECAUSE THERE NAME R THE ONLY ONE ON THE BANK ACOUNT. WHEN WE HAVE OUR MEETING S WE TELL THE PARENTS HOW MUCH WE MADE, SPENT OUT AND ON WHAT,./WE KEEP RECORDS OF EVERYTHING. BUT PTO MONEY IS CONTROLLED BY PTO NO ONE ELSE. GOOD LUCK ON EVERYTHING

Does the PTO have its own pres.,v.p.,sec., & tres.? Is the pto $$ in a pto controlled acct.? Maybe it would help to have a budget to present to the BOE so it would be more secure with the pto going on its own. Include the costs of filing for the 501c3. Good luck!!

The school that my children go to has a PTO, kind of. The regular meetings are sporadic. The president, vice president and secretary quit. I was approached by the former president to take over where she left off. The treasurer, from what I understand the by-laws to say, should be able to appoint me into that position. Could that be right?

The group is currently riding under the wings of the school's board of directors as a subcommittee. We are currently using the schools 501c3. But we have our own EIN and bylaws.. There is currently a fair sum of money in the PTO account but because of the "blatent fiscal and procedural concerns that are currently hampering" the PTO's "growth and stability" (I'm quoting a response from one of the school board members) that they may not want to allow the subcommittee to dissolve whereby allowing us to restructure as our own 501c3.

This particular board member (as a parent) is concerned that the money that the PTO has collected and currently holds, will spend the money that the children helped to earn will be misappropriated and spent on such things as the required insurance, bonds, and legal fees involved in separating from its current state.

What should I do? Where should I start?
