PB&J Sandwiches

The PTO doesnt pick up the cost. IF the child forgets his lunch or the money. The child gets a note from the cafeteria saying what they owe whether they are on regular price, reduced.
Like someone else said though they can only get the lunch on the menu no extras like ice cream or junk.

Our PTO does not pay for forgotten lunches. 80% are either free or reduced in our school. Children are not denied lunches. They are allowed to charge. A note is sent home when money is left for one lunch. Once 2 are charged, the lunchlady calls home. After that, there usually isn't an after that, the district collection group steps in to get the family on track. If they can't afford the lunches, then someone helps them fill out the proper forms. This is seen as one of those things that the school and its admin need to take care of and not a habit that we want to allow families to partake in.

The irony of commitment is that it’s deeply liberating-in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life. --Anne Morris

One thing our school does which I think is brilliant is they put an apple stamp on the child's hand when they are within 3 meals of needing money in their account. No notes to get lost and no letters to forget. You gotta see it...
We also do a small 50 fund to ensure none of our children get the dreaded "cheese sandwich". So far so good.

We have a small fund that the PTO provides for lunch forgeters. THey get full lunch the 1st day and are send home with a note. THey get full lunch the second day and sent to the office to call Mom/Dad. Third day they get bread and fruit and another call home. We don't get very many after the 3rd day.
Hope that helps.

I think I would be speaking to the principal about this issue. It should not be a PTO expense to begin with. That is a school issue and it should be dealt with through them. Funding for lunch should be coming from their budget not yours.

Not much help to you, other than a good luck to you.

All kids receive a lunch whether this is their first or fifth "offense." Our school is 950 kids, so we are going to have some daily who forget or do not have money. We also gave along with the PB&J a carton of milk. That is gone now so their getting water instead. We are a public school and we should have probably half on free or reduced lunches. However, due to being embarrased they won't do it. If I could I would. Only our bookkeeper see's anything other then the cafetera staff.

I'll suggest a letter home and see if that works.
