No, there was no charge. It was very informative and I am going to work on table topics for our next general meeting. How about "Fundraising Questions/Ideas" "Meet the PTO Executive Board" "Homework Help" "Childcare for Evening School Events" "Family Nights" "How the Money we Raise gets Spent" as a few possibilities?
Poll your parents, then maybe do a small dinner (brunchish type-doesnt have t be big).
The Presidents mtg was sorta like a 'Speed Dating' setup I take, without the fuss and muss.
Our Parent mtg's cover short school related topics but arent really well attended. Our board mtg's are 'specially now that our "Where's the $$$ go and where would you like it to go" went over so well plus the ongoing SAGA of where the school's Jog-a-thon is now in its meltdown stage of "Where's the $$$ go" and the school an dteacher running it cant answer it.

I just returned from a President's Council Meeting and I just wanted to share what they did!
FYI, Presidents Council is just a group that formed to keep all of the PTO Presidents in our township informed, all schools, all grade levels k - high school. They hold these meetings every month and I have to say, attendance is low, not even one representative from each school goes. I only made it to 2 last year and they seemed to drag on and there were so many schools with so many topics...I stopped going.
They advertised it this month as a Fall Workshop with a really nice flyer and listed what some topics would be ie. Childcare at Meetings, Licensing and Raffles, Newsletters and Websites, Running Successful Meetings, Attracting and Keeping New Volunteers, Maintaining your Budget to name a few. When I got there they had about 8 tables set up all around the room, each with about 6 chairs and a table tent with the name of that table's topic. When we got started you just went to the table whos topic you wanted to discuss and sat down. The mediator spoke for about 3-5 minutes on the topic and then the people sitting were able to ask questions or just make comments. After 10 minutes, they announced it was time to change tables. It was great! You were able to choose the topics you wanted to know about and it was very informal and it didnt feel so "structured." I am trying to figure a way to adapt this to our next general PTO meeting. I will tell you, at our last general meeting we had NO ONE show up from general membership, not one! Does anyone have any suggestions as to what topics might be good for a general PTO membership meeting to draw in a crowd? In years past they had speakers scheduled to speak, only to have the executive board only show up..thats embarrassing! Any suggestions? :cool:
