We do not endorse as a PTO. We do encourage people to vote, make sure they know where and when to vote, but do not make any statements for/against as a group.
I think it puts your PTA in a very tight spot. Do your by-laws might address this--staying neutral on "political" issues. I would not put my name on such a thing, my personal opinions/voting are MINE.
My opinion is that this is not a strong political statement, but that's hard to judge not knowing all the details of yours--just based on experience with our district's. Nonetheless, we still do not endorse as a parent group. We mention it during the meetings, and encourage our members to individually support it in some way (for example, by helping on voting day), but we wouldn't put out a group letter because we truly don't know how all our members feel about the issue (and have never had anyone who has wanted to take the time to figure it out).
Sticky situation- district asking for letter of support for public viewing from parent group, and motion was removed from the table. Concensus was parents support levy individually but not keen on public letter from group speaking for everyone. Any thoughts on this. Hard feelings going around. Not sure which way to go with this. Possibly the only elementary school in district not sending letter of full public support. Does anyone feel that this is a strong political statement or no, just a show of support for the levy to be passed. Help!
