Out PTO board met twice this summer, and we originally had that same exact idea, to give parents points for attending the PTO meetings, giving the teacher's points for attending the PTO meetings, and having the winning classroom get a pizza party at the end of the year. The second time we met we determined that it probably wasn't going to change anything, because if you got one classroom with any sort of lead then people would say forget it. (Similar to the theory why do people in California bother to vote at 9:00 at night when the election has already been decided?)

So we took the American way out, and we are offering a drawing each meeting for the parents who attend. The only thing is we are having the prizes be school related. So they might be $20 added to their child's lunch account, free school picture packages, free yearbooks etc.

I will be very curious to see how the pizza party idea plays out, since we had the same idea. I will try to keep you posted to see if the prize drawing method helps us out also.

Thar is why i really like this forum, you can see if some ideas play out better than others. More and more I feel running a PTO is almost like marketing, you try different promotions and see how they play out. The perfect example is Box Tops For Education, that is a mother load of money if everyone would participate. So each year you try a different promotion to try and get participation up.

I'm not sure what you mean by "theme" but our school done this for the first time this year. Our VP drew bubblegum machines for each class (you could color code them by grade if you want) Put the teacher's name on each. For each member that class signed up~ the bubblegum machine received a piece of bubble gum (actually used stickers from WalMart that you might use for a garage sale). We had them all on a wall right as you walk in the school so everyone that came in could see them. We put a header at the top letting everyone know what it was.

Just an idea.....

Hello everyone. I am looking for ideas for this years membership theme. The class with the highest percentage of parents members receives a pizza party so if anyone has any thoughts I would appreciate it if you passed them along to me.
