Does your school participate in Watch D.O.G.S.?

We started it in the middle of last year. Unfortunately, we had someone offer to coordinate it, and the person did a terrible job--was impossible to reach, didn't return phone calls, had no email, etc. We had a few dads show up, and they enjoyed themselves, but we never got the momentum going.

We're trying again this year; still trying to nail down a new coordinator.

Also, we do WatchDOGS "lite." We only have the dads come in for about an hour in the morning, right as school is starting. Because we have a late bell, that means dads don't get out of school until 9:15-9:30am, which creates problems with their jobs. Even though we have asked each dad to volunteer just ONE time during the school year, we get a lot of resistance. We're hoping that now that we do have some dads that did it last year, they can be the ones to talk new dads into trying it this year; I think that will help.

Have you noticed any changes? How long have you been doing it? We are starting it this year and I wondered how other schools were doing. Thanks for the input.

The irony of commitment is that it’s deeply liberating-in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life. --Anne Morris
