I don't know if you are still interested in our First Families...I had computer issues. We just invite current families to sign up to be a First Family. They are assigned a new family. We are a small Catholic K-8, approx. 500 students, so we get possibly 30-40 new families a year. It is nice for both kindergarten since everything is new and for people with older kids transferring in.

What a neat idea! I'm wondering how may families participate? I think this would be great for single parents, as a newly single parent, I would find help like this a great way to meet people and be involved in the school.

Our school started this program a few years ago. We call it First Families. The "veteran family" is given a new family to mentor for the year. Most importantly, they meet up with them at our registration and help walk them through the paperwork, volunteer info, etc. Some families go out for pizza after registration. Throughout the year, they are available to answer questions or help out in anyway possible. hope that helps.
