Anyone done something like this??--->

Our elementary school does a career day. It takes place over 2-3 days. A form comes home that a parent can complete indicating their career and the times they are available. Older students are assigned to parents as ambassadors and take the parents to the classes at their scheduled time to do their presentations. Our school counselor does the planning and running of the event and every class participates (Pre-K to 6th).

It’s a great experience for the parents and the students. We have parents with a wide range of careers in a variety of industries. One parent is an artist and brought some of his paintings. I wanted to stay for his presentation. The paintings were beautiful. Some of the parents of the teachers have participated as well. My son was thrilled the year his teacher’s mother came. She’s a scientist and they did an experiment.

National Parental Involvement Day is Nov. 17. What about incorporating a career week with bring your parent to school week? That way the parents can "schedule" a day that is both convenient for their work/home schedule and the teacher's schedule? I, too, would like to do something like this. I'll have to put the idea before my board in a couple weeks. Another one of my ideas to add to all the others for next school year! LOL

When I was in school some of the staff acted like it was the most dreadful thing to have a parent go past that office. My how things have change. Thank goodness!!

We encourage parent's to eat lunch with their children and pretty much have an open door policy for parents. If we did have a day for all parents to just hang out it would make for some crowded classrooms. Our parents around here are really into spending time events at school. You could schedule it to fit your needs though.

We have lunch with Grandparents. Maybe twice per year. I forget, the kitchen manager usually does that. We have to make it a week long and schedule classes because turnout it so great! I like it when it is done during bookfair because most grandparents just can't say no and end up buying books. LOL!

Anyhow, it is definately "acheiveable" and would probably be appreciated by kids and parents.

We always have what we call an open house one day during the school year where parents are welcome to come to school at anytime during the day and sit in on their childs classes. Parents are also welcome to bring their own lunch and join their child in the cafeteria for lunch. This is run by the principal and not the PTO.

I had an idea many years ago that I just came across recently.
Has anyone done a 'Take our parents to school day', sort of a take off on 'Take our daughters to work day'?
I always liked the idea of it but wanted to know if anyone had actually done this or some version thereof.

If you have, please post feedback. Was it a success? What worked? What didn't?
Or in general, do you think this idea is even achievable.
As parents, we are always asking our kids 'how was your day'. By actually spending it together, we would know exactly what it's like in the classroom, the playground, the cafeteria etc.
