1 Middle School Becoming 2...1 or 2 PTOs?

I think first you would need to take into consideration how the schools will be divided, how far apart they are. I would imagine that the difference is somewhat significant so it may be difficult for school #1 to hold a meeting and expect school #2 to travel to it and vice versa. If possible you may want to consider a combined fundraiser with each separate PTO being responsible for their accounts, etc. You may even consider one of you hosting a fall festival and the other holding one in the spring to keep the community spirit alive for the students as I am sure some of them will be split up from their friends with the change. You may even be able to coordinate field trips etc. that can help connect the 2 organizations. You may even consider 1 major organization with each school having their own spin off- each group is welcome at each others meetings, etc but they can each act separately as needed- you would need By Laws specifying the scope of each mini group. Kind of confusing but regardless of what is decided I think each group should work together at least through brainstorming to keep the lines of communication and friendships open. Good luck!

I would go with option 2 and have two seperate organizations. Logistically, it's just easier to work things out with one group of people. I wouldn't even worry that much about duplicating fundraisers. It's not the kids that fundraise anyway, it's parents taking stuff to work and kids selling to relatives.

Our middle school of 1400 students will be divided between 2 new schools with the current one become extinct.

Any advise/suggestions on the following 2 possibilities would be appreciated:

1. Separate PTOs for each schoool with consideration in regards to major fundraisers so we don't compete.

2. Same PTO with one meeting, running major fundraisers at the same time and having board members from both schools. Each school could have their own account (if it's possilbe) and would be able to spend it on their needs.

Any other ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks so much.
