We had
"Reading in Magic"

and had a magican come in.

We had "reading under the stars"
where we took one class room and blacked out the windows, put up Christmas lights, lava lamps, and glow in the dark stars. Kids picked up a book that they got to keep and a flashlight(which we took back) they went into this room and read with flashlights,,, we also had blankets and those reading rocking chairs, plus small tables and chairs.

How about a "Create Your Own Bookmark" station? Maybe a "Books Come To Life" station where kids can make finger or stick puppets from their favorite book (which they should have with them or maybe have a selection and they can pick out their favorite from the choices provided). How about a "Book Repair" station? Families could bring books to be repaired and/or the library could demonstrate what it takes to repair books?
Sounds like a great idea and it sounds like fun! Can I steal your idea and pitch it at our school?

Can I come too?

Our Title I does something similar to this called "Fall into Reading." The last couple of years we have had our bookfair during this time. The staff has dressed up as storybook characters, it is too cute. The purpose of this program is to show parents how the "Sing, Spell, Read, Write" and AR programs work. Parents of the older students get to take a mock test over the book that the teacher in that group has read to them. It is pretty neat.

OUR PTA WOULD LIKE TO HOST A LITERATURE FESTIVAL FOR OUR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. WE ARE THINKING OF HAVING SEVERAL STATIONS TO ROTATE TO LIKE STORY TELLING, BOOK BINGO ETC. ANY IDEAS ON WHAT WORKS AND DIFFERENT ACTIVITIES WE COULD INCLUDE?
