Should public schools be used as polling places?

Our schools are polling places, but the kids have off of school that day. It has been that way for many years now, long before 9/11

Wondering what everyones thoughts are concerning schools being used as polling places. Parents, including myself, have recently made this a BIG issue in our school district. Is the security of schools at risk by throwing out the day to day security for election day by opening the doors to voters? Everyone that I talk to says, "I really never thought about it, but yes, I am concerned about that issue, we need to do something about it to better protect our children at school." Since 911, we have to think differently about security...should we stop allowing public schools to be used on election day as polling places, or have a National Holiday and no school that day in order to keep our children safe in the United States? We can not and should not put children at risk, but need to also consider the importance of people needing to vote. What are your thoughts around the country? We have media, here, locally, all over this topic this week. We hope to make it a national issue.
