Stuffing the box? Goodness, was this student also her child? Sorry, I am in a mood this morning.

Why not just make it one vote per teacher. Perhaps have a committee to pick the best essay. Is that what you do anyhow?

We have two similar programs. One is "behavior" driven with students getting an award for an outstanding behavior. Teachers award these. Each month one is drawn for a prize.

The "student of the week" is run by the PTO. Each student gets to be it during the year (there is more than 1 each week). We do a really short survey at the beginning of the year and announce an "interesting" fact about him/her at the assembly when they are student of the week. It's a really small school, not sure if it would work somewhere larger. They get a book and a school picture frame with a picture of themselves. We use to take pictures with the principle but this year they will be candid shots.

our organization host the student of the month and we need to revamp it a bit. I was wondering if anyone here knows how their school does it, what conditions have to be present to qualify?, or does your parent group organize it, if so what do they do?

We had teachers, staff anyone in the school fill out a nomination form. Give reason why you think this kid should be student of the month. And the reasons weren't just grades, it was attitude, kindness, going out of your way to be nice etc. The student of the month received a $5. gift card to wal-mart and all the nominations received a pencil (not much). The high school student received a special parking spot or if non-driver first in lunch line for the following month.

We need to set up guide lines so it isn't just who gets the most nominations. We had teachers stuffing the boxes last year. It needs to be a real going out of your way to be a good student type thing.

Any ideas will be appreciated!
