National "Reflections" art program

19 years 10 months ago #110797 by mum24kids
We had about 112 entries last year with a school of about 600. Some teachers had students work on their Reflections entry as a formal assignment. In one school around here, the Reflections person works with the art teacher to promote it, and that seems to work well. We write an article about the program in the school newsletter, send a flyer home, and post all the directions on our website.

Also, we had a reception last year for all the participants. Every person who entered received a certificate and goodie bag filled with small items donated by area businesses--free personal pizza, free 8x10 portrait, etc. We made it a really big deal--all the kids who participated were excited, and the ones who didn't participate in the program said they wished they had. So, we're hoping for much better participation this year.

Hi Watcha doin!
There are four categories for the Reflections Art Program is literature, musical composition, photography and visual arts which includes drawing, painting, print making and collage.
There is no category YET for things like sculpture or we had a submission one year of a great video.
But you are not limited to just drawing. There is a lot of information about the program at this link (open to all) www.pta.org/parentinvolvement/familyfun/aboutreflect.asp
And planning and implementing at this site (PTA members only) www.pta.org/parentinvolvement/familyfun/aboutreflect.asp
Your PTA login and password is on the back of your PTA membership card.

I just saw the rest of your post, none of the PTA schools that we have been in has participated in Reflections but I have several schools in my Region that do and a friend who worked on the program several years ago. I can put you in touch with them for more information and some history on how it has worked for them.

Good luck!

Hi, I am looking for information about the Reflections program that schools hold nationwide every year to promote art.
Our school has done this in the past, but with a new PTA board this year, we are looking for ways to make it better. ALWAYS a sad turnout for a school of over 1000 students (K-8), maybe got 12 entries last year.
Was limited to just drawings, can you expand the "art" to include sculptures, etc..
What has been anyone else's experience with this?
Thanks in advance
