President's Welcome Letter

Loud mouth me here...sharing my welcome letter...

Dear Parents,

On behalf of the Parent Teacher Club and the rest of our family, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Our Lady of Perpetual Help School.

Last year, I was also new here. I was a little uncomfortable meeting new people, and I didn’t know how to begin to figure out the system. Even the uniform policy baffled me! If you’re feeling the same way right now, relax. The feeling passes, and friendships are SO EASY to come by here at OLPH. You hardly have to say “We’re new here” before someone will be welcoming you and trying to get to know you better.

The OLPH Parent Teacher Club helps arrange many of the activities that take place here at the school. We help out with volunteer opportunities, fundraising, and many of the special events that the school holds every year. Last year, our families gave in excess of 5,000 hours in service to the school. We raised thousands of dollars for classrooms, teachers, and technology. And we arranged spaghetti dinners, grandparents’ receptions, teacher appreciation lunches, graduation receptions, monthly family suppers at CiCi’s Pizza, school supply orders and distribution, Catholic Schools’ Week activities, and much, much, more. This year, we’ll double-back and see what more we can do to ensure even better communications between the home, school and teachers.

We want to do everything we can to help you become comfortable with the great decision you’ve made to join us. Take this opportunity to ask how you can become involved in your child’s education, and set a goal for yourself to be a part of the school. Who knows—maybe in a year or two, you’ll be writing this welcome letter!

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to call Mary or me at the numbers listed below. We’re happy to help in any way possible and want to make this year your child’s best year ever!

Sincerely,

ME

I had a question for Helen who posted her sample letter. What is a school friend finder? Just curious. Thanks

I am not the president of our HSA but I do membership. Below is the letter that I send out in our first friday folder. I attach descriptions of all our committees and the volunteer/friend finder forms. Packet is 3 pages, double sided and I made 600 copies over the summer...whew, glad to be done with that.
Feel free to 'sample' this letter for your own use.
Welcome / Welcome Back to All Sunnymead Families.
September is an exciting time and we are looking forward to another great year!
As the Sunnymead Home and School (SM-HSA), we would like to introduce ourselves and give you some idea of what we do “behind the scenes”. The SM-HSA provides services that enhance our children’s everyday educational experience and strives to give parents a more direct voice in what happens at our school. We coordinate many programs that all the students enjoy, such as assemblies, fund class parties as well as coordinate family activities including pumpkin carving night, holiday gift shop and our annual fun fair. We are able to do all these things through our fundraising activities throughout the year which are primarily membership dues, fall fundraiser and our spring basket auction.
The success of SM-HSA is dependant upon people who are enthusiastic about volunteering at our school. We have many committees that are active at different times of the year and require various levels of commitment. Parents who work with computers might help by doing electronic committee work,(e.g. e-mails, faxes, copying) while parents with time during the day might come to the school to help out with a committee( e.g. School Store, Life Skills.) Our basket auction, which takes place in the spring, is by far the largest event we sponsor and needs many volunteers. Whatever your own level of flexibility, SM-HSA always appreciates their parent volunteers, as do our teachers and staff. Keep in mind that by volunteering, you will get to enjoy interacting with the kids, become friends with other parents, and accomplish things that truly make a difference.
Attached are the SM-HSA membership/friend finder/volunteer forms. Please take the time to read the committee descriptions and sign up for the ones you find interesting. As the year progresses and the committees come together, you will be contacted by phone and/or e-mail from the chairperson. Another great benefit to joining the SM-HSA is you will receive a school friend finder.
Please return the membership dues of $10 per family and membership/volunteer forms to school via backpack by Sept. 30.

Warm regards,
Sunnymead Home and School co-Presidents
