We host several events to begin the new year. A teacher meet & greet is held for 1 hour the day before school. Students and parents can meet their teachers and get acquainted with the school layout, etc.

Another great idea is our Movie Premiere Opening Day - We roll out a red carpet and have local celebrities on hand for our 1st day of school. We have a giant movie clapboard and a real red carpet for each student to walk thru. We hand out magnets with the updated school calendar to each student as their movie pass to get into school.

Once the kids are inside and situated, we host a BOO HOO/YAHOO Breakfast for all parents where we just chat and share a laugh or tear!! The parents love it. Don't forget the afternoon kindergarten if you don't have full day kindergarten. We host a Boo Hoo Yahoo Snack in the afternoon for all of the PM Kindergarten parents. That way no one is left out. Have fun.

Good luck with your new program. The most important thing to do is make your parents welcome. Let them know that parent involvement is the most important part of your organization. Help them to open up and stress to them that their opinions matter. I have been on both sides of the fence first a parent then an officer. Also another thing teachers are important too. Sometimes our teachers will give a free homework pass to the students who had parents at the meeting. I know this is not exactly the topic but these are very important factors to make anything successful in your organization.

Hi Anabel -

Your question is why we started this:

School Family Nights

Great way to host events that can help connect your group with parents.
