We offer (as above) pizza parties for the class with the highest attendance. It's the only thing that seems to work...

Believe me the chance would be way better than 1 and 1000 chance to win....

As for meetings historically our board members are the only ones attending - but I would not mind to include those attending meetings.

It just seems no matter how we shake it up ... we are not increasing our volunteer base.

This coming year I am president again took some time off as pres (had baby) -- we do have some new ideas in the works to get kindergarten parents early on in the year, but thought the raffle might stir things up a bit. Before spending the 50.00 we would attempt at donations for local dinning and a movie etc.

Raffle is an interesting idea - not sure how it would work for "shifts" as that's a lot of people, the chances are not real good. I would work to help out, not because I have a 1 in 1000 chance of $50.

What about making the raffle (in the parents name) for something for the kids? Pizza party, ice cream? something?

We have our icecream social the same night as the budget vote. We had over 100 parents there last year. There were lot's of questions and clarification on what things meant that were in the budget, nothing was shut down.

We have the same moms that come to everything so what a Mom did was challenge the other parents to come to our budget meeting. It was advertised in our newsletter the teacher with the most parents attending will recieve $50 for her classroom fund. The Mom that set the challenge wrote the check! WOW! I had just had a baby so I was absent but was told they had a great turn out!

What do you all think about a cash raffle to be held at the end of the year for our volunteers?

Sounds interesting, fun, but interesting. Are you only doing this for the parents that volunteer or including the ones that come to the meetings?
This is a hard one.

At our school we have low parental involvement. For example, I sent home a flier in every backpack advertising our budget meeting asking parents to come and have a voice on how our funds are spent. ONE mom showed up other than the board members. Over the span of the year it is about the same 15 people helping. What do you all think about a cash raffle to be held at the end of the year for our volunteers? Each time a person volunteers for a "shift" at one of our events their name will be entered (maybe we can have a decorated jar in the office) chairpersons will get 2 chances. At the end of the year have two drawings for 50.00. Our budget has a line item for membership - which we would use for snacks at meetings (if people show up) maybe we could use the money for this instead. Thanks for your thoughts.
