It's worth the investment to join the National PTO Network (NPN)--see the blue bar in the frame at left. It's less than $200, and you get discounted insurance rates, access to archived articles from PTO Today, and several "Expert Guides." The Expert Guides include sections on how/why to incorporate and get tax exemption, a treasurer's guide and guide to parent involvement. From what I heard at one of the conferences, they are also planning on enhancing the member benefits this year with some telephone support, but Tim would have to chime in on this; I don't know details. If you don't have PTO funds to cover it, chip in with the others and pay for it out of your own pocket; you won't regret it. It will definitely start you out on the right foot.

Check out the FAQ section on the left, too--you can find sample bylaws there so you don't have to reinvent the wheel. Plus, if you look through some of the old posts in the forum here, you'll find people willing to send you sample brochures that they have used, etc.

NEW TO PTO AND WE NEED A LOT OF HELP! was created by buffy3101
Hello, We are restructuring our PTO this coming 2004-2005 school year. We are starting all over from scratch. In years past PTO has been more of a hassle than an enjoyment. We have started to work on new by-laws, and we are looking for ways of getting parent involvment and some type of pamplet or news letter to our parents. Any information would be greatly appreciated, everyone on this years board has never been on PTO and we got nothing from the old board not even the checkbook but that is a long story, but we have taken matters up with our local law enforcment to handel that matter. Everyone on the new board including me are wodering what have we gotten our self into. We are the blind leading the blind and need help. Thanks in advance. Any type of information to help us out on the right foot.
Thanks,
Buffy
