I just saw this post. We have the Character Counts program in our county. I was a volunteer for three years. One year at the pre-k and 2 at my kids school. Our county ag dept sponsers this program from a grant they get. Parents and community members sign up with the agent or at a school. The ag dept has alot of material they are able to share. She has a meeting during the begining of the year to let people share their experiences and give advice. We do the six pillars in seperate lessons (most of the time). As PTO president I did as much as I could to help promote it. One year our principal did a couple of classes so every classroom had a CC volunteer. I didn't do it this year because my plate is pretty full and I have missed doing it. I kept my lesson plans and such, hopefully some day I can do it again and most of my kids remembered "The Golden Rule". Feel free to email me about this and I will help you in any way I can.
As for Lifeskills, our Board of Ed has a contract with them for counseling but the counselor did a program called "Kids Helping Kids". I think this may have been paid for through a United Way grant our FRC uses. I am not sure. This program allowed teacher referred kids of the same age group to get together and discuss their fears and troubles. My oldest son was in that because he has some mild aniexity problems and he loved it.
I too, would like to know if any of you have Character Counts or LikeSkills programs at your schools? The Six Pillars of Character kind of stuff. Any help, references, suggestions would be appreciated.
