Volunteer Training Day

20 years 11 months ago #108851 by mum24kids
I'm talking with our principal now about doing this. I haven't done it in the past, but I'm now in a brand new school, and all the equipment is brand new and not the same brand as what other schools around have. (For example, the other schools that people are coming from use Xerox copiers, and we have Pitney Bowes.) Plus, the workrooms aren't real close to the main office. So, if nothing else, I'd like to offer training sessions on the equipment and sign-in procedures. I'm not planning on making them mandatory, but I think they're a good idea.

Yes we have this. Confidentiality is a must in order to volunteer at our school. So that is covered first things. I also had different trainings for different things for those who were interested.

We have a very active parent base (each family is required to provide 20 volunteer hours). Last year we did a Parent Orientation where we discussed procedures (sign in, report hours, where to park, etc.) and Policies/Rules (How to be a good volunteer).

This year we may advertise for New parents, or those who want a refresher.

There was a comment that going over the "Rules" is a big turn off. But, with so many parents in and out of the school, it can be very disruptive. I think people want to know what is expected of them, and sensitized to avoid problems.

The past two years we have held a volunteer training day for our parent volunteers. The front office staff covers training on the copy machine, binding machine, laminator and our die cut machine.

Do other schools do this. It has become very popular and really helps parents become comfortable helping out the teachers.

We just turned our Volunteer Sign Up Form for this year in for printing. We added a sign up for the volunteer training day and we are having a day and evening session this year.

Just curious if others do this or not.

Thanks,

Lisa
