You sound like us 2 years ago. We had a PTO that had disbanded, with a lot of bad feelings (before my time), but it carried over to when I became involved. We had a lot to overcome. The principal then even told us that no one cared and we'd have no support. Well we showed them that we cared and were there to make changes. By the end of the first year teachers and parents started to come around. Last year was even better and it looks that this year will see a lot more improvement. I have a full board working with me this year. They are all enthused, even pushing me to have more summer meetings and get things going. What kind of ideas are you planning? If you show them you care they will start to care too. Hang in there. It can be very frustrating when your trying to do something that you believe in and trying to get others to believe in it too. I am going to be the new president at our school this year. My problem is one of the other women who wants to be a officer(by the way she is the only other person offering any help right now)thinks that most of my ideas won't work because the parents aren't going to accept them. Most of the parents either work or just don't care is what she told me. She also thinks that just because the ptsc didn't have the teachers support last year, that we won't have any support this year. My problem is I want to make changes that I think are for the better, but how? We are getting a new principal, six new teachers and don't have any officers from last year. We only had two last year and the president quit and the treasuer is moving up to middle school. I think with all these changes, more modern ideas would be great. :confused:
