Alrighty--if we are on the subject.....I just found out today that I am not invited to the luncheon that recognizes the school volunteers! I started volunteering in-class in November (I had to re-arrange my work schedule-work 4 longer days so I could have a day off to volunteer!) They (the school district) are only recognizing the ones that have done it since Sept!!! Meanwhile, as you all pretty much know, I have been working my butt off over the past few weeks to organize a push for class room volunteers. I'm talking surveys, orientation programs, getting a nurse to volunteer time to mass tb everyone, checking out daycare options for parents w/ younger kids who would like to volunteer back can't, researching confidentially stuff.....on and on. Never mind everything I've been doing for PTA and School Improvement Council! Anyway--trying REAL hard not to be small and petty about this-but it upsets me more than I thought it would. I didn't even know there was a luncheon until I started getting calls from Mom's to see if I could arrange a high school student to watch kids in another room so they can enjoy luncheon.

I guess we all just have to remember that we are doing this for the kids and I know my son's school will be improved because of my efforts. It is a thankless job though -- much like parenting itself I guess!

Well, it is time for end of the year burn out. I don't feel bad cancelling events if there are not enough volunteers to man (woman) them. For our PTA board I told them I would not run for re-election unless one of them committed to being President the next year. Our treasurer stepped up. We couldn't get people willing to be dunked at the dunk tank for the festival (that water IS cold) so this year we cancelled the tank. It was a long standing tradition and very popular with the kids. oh, well... Our cub scout pack almost went under this year because our previous packleader had no assistants and was a real one-man band. Two of us stepped up and our whole goal is two build leadership for next year when we move on.
I do agree that the two big problems all volunteer organizations are facing are not only lack of volunteers but too many indians and not enough chiefs. good luck to all burnt leaders.... I served my time as PTA president and am looking forward to the election this month when the next in line moves forward.

Gosh this could be an illness!!!!!!I, too, could write the same thing word for word as you two did! I feel very burnt out and there are not enough people stepping up to the plate. We do not even have anyone running for treasurer for next year. I am going to have to threaten to dissolve if someone doesn't step up. Even if someone does it will be because of a threat and not a real desire to do the position. How good will they really be?

I am also a committed person and have put my family on the back burner a lot as I am sure you have done. Not everyone is willing to go that extra mile. There simply is not enough and I stress the word "enough" people who are committed to or willing to step up. I have done everything I could possibly do to get people to come to the table. Newsletter articles spread out over a couple of months.... I guess I am going to have to threaten dissolution.

I want to resign but feel that I will be leaving everyone in the lurch next year, especially the new incoming Co President (who has not been on the board previously). I am probably just too burnt out at the end of this year. I will do one more year and then out I go. Has anyone out there had to threaten dissolution when no one comes forward to run for a board position - especially treasurer? How did you handle it? I could use some advice.

Anyway........just wanted to let you know you are NOT ALONE!

You could be my twin!!

I also had health problems, and my husband had back surgery this year too. While he was in the hospital (and doing well) I drove over 30 miles to attend a meeting we had 20 people there at the most and my vp decided to tell me that week she was quitting! She didn't even show for the meeting. (But she did have a cold)

I just announced my resignation. It was painful, everyone is begging me to stay. We are also a poor county, with very few volunteers.

I still plan on being actively involved. I am missing it already and hope I can use this board to help me cope, but I also feel that this is the right descision for me and my family. Besides I can always run next year! A person can only do so much.

I am glad you posted this I was thinking of making a post like this myself.

I currently am the parent club president of a k-6th grade school we have 460 students. As you all know to well the duties are never ending I find I spend more time at the school than many employees. Next week we are having elections for next years officer and I am not sure if I want to continue. I feel that my work at the school help sooo many children, we fun fieldtrips, assemblies, enrichment classes in addition to our never ending fundraising (and requests for funds) we also put on every extra activity like carnivals, family night, donuts for dads etc....

Lately i am feeling so overwelmed unappreciated & tired. I think I do a really great job as the president & so do all the other officers, members & the principal. I am not in this for the public appreciation or the look what I'm doing I am in this for the kids. Oh yea one more thing.... my health has been bad this year and I am the type of person that will do whta i commit to even if it kills me, so there was plenty of times/events that I was way to ill to be at.

Our attendence is only around 10 & the same parents do all the work, many of the staff will not do anything extra unless they get paid. My friend keep joking that I should (and could) be a COE of a big company. And I thought I was a stay at home mom. 2 other officers say if I quit they are going to also. My kids attend this school we don't have many extras (we are a poor district) so the school relys on the Parents alot..

I need advice, I don't know who would take over if I left & how they would handle the funds, activities etc... Anyone else going through this??? Thanks for letting me vent. ;)
