Boo Hoo Breakfast for first day Kinder parents

I am in love with this idea! I told several different schools about this idea and we are all going to do it this fall. We just finished our first annual Easter egg hunt and it was a huge success! Thank you for the tip about the breakfast!!

I also borrowed this idea from a poster on this site. We held our first Boo-Hoo breakfast this fall and it was a hit. We distributed a "calendar of events" at registration to let parents know about the breakfast and some other events that were going on before school went into session and that first couple of weeks. I prefaced it with "Whether they're tears of sorrow (your baby is starting school) or tears of joy (now you know why your mother was so happy when school started)you're sure to find someone to share with at our first annual Boo-Hoo breakfast."
We served donuts and juice and had a basket of Hershey's Hugs and Kisses. We wore name tags, I wrote a poem of consolation, there were Kleenex, and I supplied sticky notes and pens so parents could write down names and phone numbers if desired.

Hey Rocky, watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat.

I can't remember where I "liberated" this idea - I found it online somewhere (internet searches are a great tool) - but the following statement may help you:

<blockquote>quote:</font><hr>Subject: Boo Hoo Breakfast

If you’re the parent of an entering kindergarten student....or any parent who feels "letting go" on the first day of school may be a little difficult.....please plan to drop by the cafeteria as soon as the bell rings at 8:40 on that Monday morning. (~specify your own time~)

There will be refreshments and plenty of tissues, along with some sympathy from fellow sufferers. :) However, we do have some parents (usually those who have just entered their last child in kindergarten) who call this a "Yahoo" instead of "Boo Hoo" Breakfast, so don’t be surprised if you hear some rejoicing here and there too!

It’s great fun and a wonderful way to meet other parents. Please plan to come!

I'm also looking for some direction on a "Boo Hoo" breakfast for Kindergarten Parents on the first day of school - how it's run - how you get the info to the parents letting them know when it is - what you serve, how you network with the new parents.

Any info greatly appreciated. Thank you.
