Family Movie Night

Hi there! We have been hosting family movie nights for 4 months now and it is the best event we have for a constant flow of funds! We are small and this is the begining of our second year, so everything is low scale so far, but everyone LOVES movie night! The first thing we did was get a copywright license from MOVIE LICENSING USA. It cost $350 for 1 year, but they allowed us to charge $1 per person admission to pay for it. Our school district requires us to have insurance to cover our events, so that was already taken care of. We use my personal dvd player and sign out the schools AV Projector. The auditorium has a 12x12 screen, so we were set. we purchased candy, soda, juice boxes, etc. and sent flyers home with each student the week before the show. It only took two shows to pay for the license and we advertised in the paper that the movies would be free for the next year. We put up posters around town, jot a note in the local paper (our school doesn't have a school newspaper) and that was all it took. We do request that parents attend with their children to promote family things, but it goes great. Our best movie so far was Ice Age and we had approximatley 500 people. We also offer a raffle of the movie playing that evening. We usually profit about 300.00 per show! Hope everything works great for your group!!

Hi Raesmom!
We've found that with a laptop computer and a PowerPoint projector you can watch DVD's. Our children did this just yesterday to watch a movie about Martin Luther King. Also, you might check out the resources of your public library. Often you can rent projectors, etc., from them.

Good Luck!!

HI raesmom, We are having a movie night this Friday. We are so excited. I am co-chairing this event and I am having a blast.

Are you sure you dont have the equipment to do this? All you need is a projector and a VCR/DVD player and a screen, or I bet it would work on the wall too. That is all we are doing. If you have a computer teacher he/she could help you with this. That is who we asked.

We let the kids vote for the movie and I even made up tickets for the families that R.S.V.Ped. I talked to a local car dealership to use their popcorn machine and I asked the local 7-11 for their cheap cups to be donated. We are going to raffle off the 1st and 2nd place movies as an incentive to come along with the great fun they all are going to have.

One big way that has gotten the kids excited about this is letting the oldest grade help with some planning. I made up a script that a few 5th graders read over the PA system and they made posters fo the hallways. They are having a ball! So there are some ideas and if you would like copies of the fliers I sent out I will send them to you. I have them in microsoft publisher 2000. Hope this little bit helps!

Help! I'm the new PTO co-chair. I have already set up a Taco Bell famliy night at the end of this month.I have tried very hard to get more parent involved. (each meeting we have less then 6 parents which include the officers). We are hoping that this will be a great way to get familes out to meet each other and to let them meet our new officers. My question is that I would like to set up a family movie night but I'm not sure how to go about it. We do Know that we would like to have it at school, but we don't know what equipment we would need.Any tips and suggestion would help.
