i would just like to share a few experiences with you and maybe you could share afew opinions with me.
but first of all i want to thank the forum for such great topics!!!!! a place like this is really needed for parents like us.
well how can i start last school year i can honestly say we had a great year, although many changes accured since the begining of the year. first we lost our cpo-principle (im in a charter school) that would go all out for the pto, always cooperated with our activities and events, always attended meetings, everything, a great person,well the board of directors decided to loose him. that was in nov. last year, by our christmas program we had a new cpo and a new principle. two strangers that would be running the school. as a pto president and representative of the parents we wanted answers on why we no longer had our old principle, we never had them, all they gave us was a run around. pto moved on, we needed to with christmas coming up and wish list to get to we had to move on. okay, by march we no longer had the new principle- why we never knew!! to our relief we now had someone we knew which happened to be a teacher that had been with the school for some time. she worked with us the remaining of the school year, she is great person, the pto just loves her. well this year started and to our surprise our vp, secr, pr and group coord. did not return to the school, obviously because of the concurring changes. so now its a treasurer and a president-me striving to get a new coming parents involved, and no involvement has taken place. well we tried everything!! flyers, teacher reminders- and nothing!! we've had our 4th monthly meeting this month and i had planned to elect officers with in the pto,so this past month (nov) we had distributed nomination form and we were going to get floor votes this past meeting, well the cpo said no, after i had already called parents and made an agenda i had to change my plans because he wasn't very satisfied with how i wanted to do things. i said ok and did things his way, i formed a nominee committee on his request, expained to the parents what was going to take place. i have no problem with that, i do how ever have a question, if we have a 2 year term for each position, does that position stay open for nomination? the reason i ask is because he wants me to open all positions including president and treasurer, 2 of which we don't need at thids point. if anyone can answer that for me i'd really appreciate it. also i'd like to add that there has been talk about administration taking things personall with the members of the pto, being the treasurer and i. why, i really don't know, but we have worked with the school all last year helping them by getting volunteers all last year and with anything that they needed us to do, we would gladly help, so i really don't understand why he wants to change with the pto. my understanding of a pto is to work with the school, staff and administrators for the benefit of the teachers and our children. also i wanted to ask, he had asked me to adopt bylaws and for me not to show them to anyone but him so that he could first review them, before thay are to get signed, my question is does he have that control? i know that a pto is suppose to work together on that, so i do not understanmd why he would ask me to do that, please give me some advice, i feel that i am really being put under pressure here and i fell that i deserve answers from this people, but i don't know who i'm suppose to ask. i've talked to the principle and she is extremely intimidated by him, people are starting to call the school " the devils advocate" from the movie, and that is sad. i've thought of resigning but i feel i would just let alot of people down, people who are countng on me, and i really do not want to do that. i just feel that he wants to control every single movement in the school and we are not even allowed to ask the principle for permission for any thing, we have to go directly to him.
so again i ask for your helping advice.
