Election Day- New Members allowed to Vote?

20 years 2 months ago #99321 by mykidsmom
Like JHB said, check those by-laws. It's fustrating as many of our elections were won or lost because of all these "members" coming outta the cracks to vote! Now Roberts Rules of Order state if the member is in good standing (dues are paided) then they have the right to vote. My little red book also says if there is an issue (like this sort of question NOT covered in your by-laws) then at that time it needs to be handled by the entire assembly or members present. Doesn't that sound like fun!

Best of luck!

....if all else, do a Google search on Roberts Rules of Order, great website and a Q&A part! ;)

You'll have to follow your bylaws. If there is no restriction against this - no requirement that people be members by a particular date, I don't see how you could enforce restricting voting.

We are having our elections and are wondering if people who join the pto on election day should be allowed to vote in the election that day?
