Trying to get RE-started

20 years 3 months ago #99182 by LUVMYKIDS
Just think you could appeal to both the "P"s and the "T"s in your PTO! Being able to relate to both segments will be a great asset as you move forward on re-building your group.

Hey Rocky, watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat.

We have both parents and teachers as officers at our school. This way you can offer the best of both worlds. The only thing in our rules is that a teacher can not be president (because at some point she/he may have to go up against the principal and that wouldn't be fair, it's a conflict of interest)

As our committee chairs go, we again have teachers as committee chairs. To have the teachers more involved than just as teacher reps. the ones that truly benefit are the kids!

Agree with the above two posts; you're actually in a unique position to help this become a reality. I also can see where you view possible pitfalls, but no one ever succeeded by not trying.

The kids need the help; go for it!

I agree with Crazy. Being both, you can show that both sides can be represented and some of my best PTAs are run by people just like you.

Why not wear both hats? You have a lot to offer both as a parent and as a teacher. If there is a good mix of parents and teachers that put together your bylaws and your budget is approved by membership (again both parents and teachers) you should have no problems. Unless of course the reasons you "did not get into" have something to do with teachers - but even then it sounds like you have had several years and there should be a new bunch of parents and even teachers at your school. Go for it!! It will only help your students! Good Luck!

We have been without a PTO in our school for several years due to some unfortunate circumstances that I won't go into. However, I have been
approached by several parents that are interested in getting one going again.
My concern is this: not only am I a parent, I am also a teacher. I was a very active member and board member previously (in the teacher end) and I'm not sure if it will be too much of a conflict to try to get this started again.

If I do take this on, do I go about it as a "parent" or a "teacher"???

What would be the best way to get reorganized?

Help me please.
