Here is my take: I don't know what bilaws say but the point here is your parents/kids raised that money and its yours to decide what you spend it on, otherwise why would the pto vote on what to spend on if it was a free for all for the teachers to use. You have to set up something whenever you spend money regardless of what the situation. I'm not sure why your teachers are so bent up about not being able to have the 4grand but I'd tell them if they want 4grand for the field trips then they need to raise the money themselves. The vote said no and its closed and final...they'll get over it everyone always does when they get bent up about something......just a matter of time. I do the fundraising for my child's school and as hard as I have busted my hind end to bring in 30grand to the school I'd be a bit upset if anyone just thought it was free money for them to spend.

Each year our PTO sponsors an end of the year "fun day" we have done carnivals, picnics and various school day trips in the past years. Usually we form a fun day committee out of parents and teachers who gather ideas and costs and then vote on what we will do. This year the teachers have made a decision of where we will go without any parent involvement, and are asking the PTO fund this trip ($4,000.00) the parents were very angry to say the least, it is a trip we had attended last year that was not a favorite of the children! As a PTO officer we decide to hold a vote at our next PTO meeting. At the meeting the parents had many questions and not one was addressed, the staff claims they have every right to make this decision and do not need to answer to the PTO. So our parents voted NOT to give them the money! Well, now myself and the other officers are being called into a closed door meeting to be repremanded for the PTO's decision. We have been told we are not to withhold money. What exactly are we to do? The fundraising came from our families not the teachers. AND to top it off why should I personally be slapped on the wrist for an entire memberships decison? Wasn't it fair that we asked them to explain why this has happened?? Please help!!!
