President problems

When our officers finally leave their positions, they usually seem so relieved that they are overjoyed to give as much help possible. Our officers have been known to be in office for longer than the normal two years because everyone is happy with their performance and don't want them to go.

I am not sure how much that "Past President" is involved. Show the new president the ropes should not and does not mean the new president is answerable to them, if it does then I can understand why they maybe reluctant. It ought to be a simple process of turn over and hopefully you have everything documented so the new board doesnt have to reinvent the wheel. If not maybe to get past this it would be a good idea to do so.

I guess I am lucky - our past board members (several years worth) are around but dont interject unless asked any more than any other person does at any rate. I dont hear well we did it this way or that way.

care2boys--I'm not sure what to suggest. Do you know why potential board members are concerned? Are those concerns valid? Try to discover who may be interested and talk to them. They want to actively participate in your school, or they wouldn't be considering becoming a member of the board. A talk with you may help. If they still choose not to run, then could a current board member who already works with this president be convinced to serve again, this time as president?

Nomination forms have been sent out to parents for the positions available for next years board. Rumor has it (we just love those rumors)that there are parents interested on being on the board. The reason they won't is because they dislike our current President who next year will be our "Past President". This person shows the new president the ropes of how things work ect...
There is fresh new blood out there. Just what our PTO needs. Any suggestions on what to do?
Seven positions are open.
