Mine is a little red book I never leave home without for meetings. Average cost $16 (I think) and I found mine at Barnes and Noble but sure you can find it anywhere- Amazon?

Kim- I would try acting Prez first, see if anyone wants to take on the offices of Prez or VP. This needs to be done at the first meeting with an election at the next meeting unless your by-laws state something different. BUT first and foremost this issue needs to be put before your Board and make sure you need a Prez, maybe one of the other officers would like to step up in that case you would only need to replace/fill that office. Man, I hope that makes sense.

This happens alot and just hearing you say you are thinking about taking on the office is great!

All those meetings you've attended you should be an expert! You can do it. I know it's hard to talk in front of everyone. I would make an agenda for every one and a check list for myself and concentrate on it.

You already have the inside scoop on how things are run. I think you would be a great asset to your daughters PTO.

You can purchase a book called Robert's Rules...(ok someone help me out I can never remember the name of it) We've never had one but intend on purchasing it. You can get it at bookstores.

I know rezoning can be aggravating. As soon as you figure out who is going where and who you are going to work with you can meet with them and decide what you are going to do to make your PTO have a great year!

:D Hi Kim

first off, it will not be all that bad, take a deep breath you can do this..

I have been pto president for longer than I would like but that a nother story, We just lost our vp and got a new vp, this is what we did to make thing smother for all. I invited both the former vp and the new vp to my house for coffie, I asked the former to bring all of her books and asked the new to bring a 3 ring binder and some deviers. We spent 3 hours together and went throught every event, We talked about the who, what, and why.. I gave her coppies of our by-laws and made shure she understood what was going to happen.. She left that day feeling a little worried about if she would be as good as our last vp, (I was a little worried too...) but the new vp and I got together and talked that over to and now we are feeling good about it all..
try calling the former president and see if she will meet you for coffie and talk about the who, what, and when , and why. She can also tell you things like what worked and did not work in the past. give you hint or were to get donation. Seeing that you all ready hold a office you should have a coppie of your bylaws and account statments and have a good idea of what need done. You may just need her to tell you what the president's job duties are for each event. Take it one event at a time you will do a great job.. ;)

I was elected to be our middle school's 1st VP, however, our President's daughter got rezoned to a new middle school and now I will have to be either acting President or stay president permanently and possibly do both till we find one or the other. I have been a second VP twice before and have served as secretary on many boards but never in charge and I am just a little nervous and need some advice on where I can go to find out how to run the meetings and what kinds of things I will have to do. Thanks for any help I can get.
