Divorced Family Squabbles

21 years 2 weeks ago #98021 by JHB
In various activities (PTO, soccer, swim team, etc.) it seems that I see more and more sensitive, if not downright brutal, situations among divorced parents. Are you experiencing the same - and how do you handle it? To some degree we eventually learn where the tough situations are and do what we can, but it's impossible to plan for it all. I'm sure the teachers deal with far more than we. Here are some of the instances:
  • Parents who refuse to communicate and insist that the organization find a way to send separate copies of everything to the different households.
  • Ex-Spouse A who takes great delight in signing up Ex-Spouse B for volunteer positions they will "hate" but will feel obligated to fulfill.
  • Parent asking for copies of PTO records (membership and volunteer) to use as supporting evidence of lack of involvement of other parent during custody battle.
  • General backstabbing and even embarrassing (verbal) fights at events.
  • Run-around on commitments or payments because "other parent supposed to take care of it".

My heart goes out to the kids caught in this situation. We do what we can with each unique situation, but it seems that some of these parents are way past reasoning. I just wondered what experiences some of you are having.
