what to do when a chair doesnt chair?

pto mom of five... It would only take a couple of parents to pull this off. As far as yes shes the one that wont be happy. I saw her on Friday and was under the assumption that it was all set, it wasn't until friday night I had mentioned it to the principal in my weekly email...saturday morning she responded. The principal felt since i had so much on my plate that she would figure something out. The whole event is collecting change for leukemia society, it requires weekly trips to the bank, which i dont have the problem with ..its all the publicity that should have been done. She told the principal all this stuff about media and assemblies, etc and how they had to be set up. Now you know that takes alot of work. my principal and I thought we would just do it lightly but this person thinks we should really really push it...we have done so much with community service that we felt if we collected 10.00 thats great. i mean the whole purpose is teaching the kids about helping others.I did a flyer to go out tomorrow and that's all ive done so far. I dont understand why she bothered to sign up the school if she wasnt doing the work. Im going to push it through but only because i think it's important. as far as letting her chair again...im going to be very wary.

First take a deep breath, and say a prayer. Did you contact this person to see why she dropped the ball? If she is the parent that wouldn't like the way you run it the "oh well!" she had her chance. If it's another parent then by all means let them do it, if they think they can do it better. If your group has been talking about it for months, this person had plenty of time to call for help or resign as chair. See if there is anything that she did to set this up. Did she contact and get any volunteers for it. If not then send home a flyer tomorrow, state something like, due to unforseen problems this project had to be canceled. If your volunteers are already putting in a large amount of time, they will probably breathe a sign of relief. I'm not clear as to what this community service is. How many volunteers you would need. Or if it could even be pulled together in just one day. Another thing if she did this Thursday, why weren't you informed before Saturday? That would have given you a couple more days to see what could be done to salvage it.

Hi ...Im so frustrated and i knew this was the place to come ! Yesterday I received this really upsetting E-mail from our principal. She was REALLY upset with a parent that was suppose to be chairing an event. What had happen was this mom signed up our school for a community service project that starts TOMORROW !! We had been talking about it for two months and for two months she basically gave us the assumpition that she was going to do the work. She showed up on THursday basically demanding that the principal sets up the whole thing and dump it on her and I.
So now i have this project that was suppose to be kicked off tomorrow, a principal that is so stressed out by the whole thing and a parent that won't like the way I run it !! See this week happens to be the end of a game drive., guest reader week. read across america theme week, book exchange week, and the kick off to a healthy snack program !! We also just finished a candy sale last week... Yeah...I know ! I guess Im just wondering if any one has just not done a project at the last minute because of no help...how do you handle that? I think it's wrong to ask more from the people who are already putting in a ton
of time this week !!Just once I would like to refuse to pick up the pieces but concerned with how it effects our group. We have no officers...but are currently working on that. I should note that this project is a state wide effort and the dates stick !! So has anyone ever just gave up and how do you handle the parent who backed out, do you ever really trust them to offer to do another event? I did smooth things over with our principal, i don't thing the parent group should add more stress to her...i believe it should be to help her. I told her don't worry about it and that it will happen and all we can do is the best we can. Im sorry this is so long , im just totally frustrated !! Let me know how you handle things like this without blowing up !!
