Help! I don't know where to turn.....

janet,
I feel for you because it sounds like your school is preparing for cut backs. In New York we are hearing about major cut backs and have already been told by the principal and board to be prepared to pick up the slack if we want the programs to continue. I know the same people do all the work and your'e afraid of being stuck with it all.Chances are if the parents and school really want these programs then they will work together on it. As i'm looking ahead I wonder the same thing "how can we really do more".In the long run I know some things will unfortunately discontinue until more parents step up. We are currently looking at loosing almost all aides and assistants at our school so i can see why they are looking for help from us. All I can say is good luck and you might have to pick and choose ! Im hoping more parents step up when they see we can't continue everything.

Hello everyone! I met last week with the President of our school where he gave me a proposed "new Board structure" for the coming years. He asked me to look over it and give him some feedback and he wanted my buy-in. I liked the different breakouts of the committee's as compared to what we have had in the past BUT then as I read further and further, I noticed that he was trying to put school functions, like our field day, grandparents day, and MANY more under the PTO. They also want us to put out the school directory - which is something that we have never done in the past, as well as run the 2 fundraisers that have always been done by the school and for the school in the past. My dilemna is this.....they have paid staff members who have had these responsibilities in the past, so why now are they trying to transfer these onto the PTO - a volunteer board????? I run into the same problem that most of you probably has as well...I have a hard enough time with staffing my current volunteer positions, much less taking on responsibilities that should be the schools?!?!?!
I guess I am frustrated and I don't know how to handle this situation. Any ideas would be GREATLY appreciated!!!
