As stated this was a very "fueld up" meeting. Therefore a couple of people decided to take this opportunity to point out all the grammar and spelling mistakes on the minutes. I feel this was publically degrading to the secretary. I later called or e-mailed all of the officers and pointed out that we are all just voluteers trying to do the best that we can. We all need to give each other a little bit of grace and space. We do not get paid enough for the abuse.LOL. Further more we would not let our children act like this. I swear I think the kids need to hold workshops for the parents who are involved in non-profits.(baseball. parent-group, scouts etc.) and remind us that all this is for them.
I think it is a wise group who 'calls em like they see em'. Cutting the budget instead of running another fundraiser? Brilliant! Not very popular, but brilliant none-the-less.
I really can't think of anything to help except to offer this suggestion: Now is the time to make your presence known by doing the things that don't cost money. Have a "PTO READS" or a "PTO VOLUNTEERS" day once a week where PTO members come in and volunteer to read in classes, do playground cleanup, typing/filing/copying, etc. Show everyone that you are more than a check book and/or fundraising machine. For members who can't come to help during school hours, put them to work cutting stuff out for teachers at home.
Our parent group is in a budget crunch, and the economy is not good here. At our meeting on Tuesday the board opted to cut the budget rather than do another fund raiser. We whacked about $1,500 from the budget. Luckily most of these cuts will not effect the kids. However as you can imagine tensions were very high and it turned into an ugly cat fight. After this meeting who would want to be an officer, chairperson or member. I am in this for the long haul,(however luckily I am not an officer this year). My question is how do we turn this around and get through the rest of the school year. We need to get back on being positive and getting along. We need to again show that we are here to make a positive difference for kids. HELP!!! :confused: :confused:
