I'm not very good at reading people sometimes so I've found the best method to find out what they are thinking is to ask them. Instead of waiting until the ballots are printed, why not just tell your Principal(s) that you are planning to put so and so on the ballot and would that be a problem?

BTW, I am with you 100% on your decision to not stay at your school as a volunteer after your child is gone. I've seen this before and it never works for the best. The other parents feel slighted and the parent who has over-stayed her time is just not as connected. Good luck!

It seems that the goal of the pto should be for staff and parents to work together. Unless your bylays expressly give the principle the right to dictate who can run for a position, he has no say. All parents should have the opportunity to be on the pto board. You may want to discuss this with the principle.

This will be my final year as PTO President after two years as President and four years on the board in other positions. I do not plan on continuing on with any PTO activities when we leave to go on to the next school and will return to the workforce. The Principal would like for me to stay on "one more year", but I am not willing. There are no bad reasons for leaving, it's just time for me to move on, and it would be on good terms.

I have started to "train" some recruits who are interested in running for the office. It seems that the principals in the school have issues with these parents and would rather they NOT become an officer. I have a strange feeling when it comes time for the ballots to be printed that they will want me to exclude these parents. Ethically I could not do this as this shows my kids and others that I am not trustworthy. The people I am "training" have no problems with me, nor I with them. Our bylaws don't state anything that prohibits the Principals from doing this. Should I be "too" concerned?
