Open House/First Day of School PTO success

It was an expensive purchase. But we feel like the cost would be justified in its uses. Our hope is that it will be used for many years to come. Also, we are planning to make a booth at our fall festival where students can get their picture taken with Ambrose Eagle. This could help us raise some of the money back.

Great minds think alike...I had the same idea for our first day of school and was going to present it to our Board members until I looked into how expensive the mascot costumes are. I'm looking into the possibility of renting one or asking a high school nearby if we could borrow theirs. Our school mascot is also an eagle.

Hi! Our PTO tried something new this year and it was a huge success. We are a small country school (enrollment of only 375, grades preK-5). We purchased a school mascot costume - an Eagle. As the PTO president even though it was 90+ degrees, I put on the huge, furry costome and was there to greet students and parents at the open house and the first morning of school. Other PTO officers joined me, greeting and handing out specially purchased Ambrose Elementary Parent-Teacher Organization pencils to the students and stratch pads to the adults. The kids just loved having the Eagle walk around and talk to them. I can't tell you how many pictures I posed for as parents dropped off their kids for that all important first day of school. We plan to use the Eagle at our PTO meetings, school assemblies, and our Fall Festival in October. Also, each spring our children have a special pre-CRCT parade. This year the Eagle will march with them. It was an expensive purchase for the beginning of the year, but we feel that it was well worth it. It helped everyone see our presence and involvement from day one of the new school year!
