PTO insurance, how does yours work?

Check what they do in your state. We are a PTA, and our state dues don't cover our insurance. The state PTA negotiated a very nice special rate for us with one of the companies mentioned in the PTO article, but purchasing the insurance is still up to the individual PTA.

That doesn't mean we could get by without it. The school district requires proof of insurance for any group that uses district facilites.

As a PTA we paid $170 for this past year's insurance to our State PTA. We just recevied our premium for 7/1/02-6/30/03 in the amount $195.00...this covers
Liability- provides protection for our unit in case of injury during a PTA event. The coverage comes in 2 steps. $2 million basic coverage and a $15 million umbrella.....Directors & Officers insurance protects ourunit on the decisons made by our unit. There is a $5 million basic coverage here.....Dishonesty, Disapperance and Destruction- This is the basic crime insurance and the bond for those PTA oofficers and volunteers who hanld the money for PTA. For losses inside/outside the premises there is $25,000 coverage. For dishonesty or foregry, there is $200,000 coverage. each incident there is a $500.00 deductable.

Kandie, I know there has been a topic about this before and I believe the two top PTO insurers are listed in PTOToday vendors. One is in CA and one in TX, although they write policies for elsewhere. I think we are paying too much this year and will find out more when I am Pres. next year, as far as PTO Insurance and PTA, they are insured the same way it's just with PTA you pay into a fund that covers the insurance part and it's all connected with PTA districts and stuff. So it's kind of an easier step through PTA, but totally do-able as a PTO... Good Luck and search this forum and site and you'll find more answers.
