I admire your directness in handling that situation. Either way there would be hurt feelings. A decision has to be made in how to proceed which balances out the priorities.

This is so Weird! As I read your post,I felt like I was looking down at myslef at the begining of this year! I was elected President and at the first meeting I made a speech about how the organization needed a face lift everyone agreed and I had a plan!!! We formed committees and got volunteers to chair them and we too had a "loud" person involved. (If things weren't her idea then they weren't good ideas etc.) She worked very hard and did a good job, but people didn't feel comfortable around her and she had a "small" problem following rules! I finally sat down with her and the Principal and told her that the rules applied to everyone, including her, and I told her to go home and sit in front of her mirror and take a good look at herself because she wasn't comming across as a very nice person! Unfortunatley she quit PTO and took her friends with her! Which left the Standing committees with no chairpeople, but we (the board) handled it. After several "successfull" functions and meetings our school carnival came up. She coordinated it last year so I stopped by her house and asked her if she would like to help with it. Her eyes lit up like christmas lights and she jumped right in. Maybe the saying "The Truth Hurts" is true. There were hard feelings and a lot of talk just after she quit, but PTO went on and talk fizzled out. Maybe you should just point out to this person how they are comming across to others, her feelings may get hurt but she might start thinking about those around her before she acts.

There always seems to be one person to spoil a good year. We are having our elections next month. The newly elected officers, according to our Bylaws, pick the chairpersons for the next coming school year. If you indeed have people to fill these chairs, then all you need to do is send out the form for the Chairs, with descriptions, amount of time involoved for each position and collect. If more than one person sign up to Chair, the Ex. Board of Officers will pick. You don't have to pick her for anything. I'm sure you can explain that you want to give new people a chance to have input. This year, I volunteered to Chair a special committee, and was not picked but am helping the new Chairperson in that job. It's a very touchy situation, Good Luck

this is similar to the "pres offending members" from march. except shes just a volunteer.we dont have alot of extra people to fill positions. im trying to find a way from keeping her on an actual committe w/o making her angry. shes made much more enemies & sent people running than shes helpd-im afraid. We know she wont be voted in any elected positions, but the rest is usually just whoever raises their hand pretty much gets what they want. Weve found people to cover her spots from this year for next & thought wed sneak by (she hasnt been to a meeting since Nov) but she caught one of the nominating committee persons & commented she still wanted to continue where she was. is it a bad thing to just tell her we didnt know it & we already filled the spots? what grounds can we have to fill them- when she didnt actually do a bad job- w/ someone whos totally new to the board? the job itself was ok but her mouth has got to go! she has not 1 good thing to say about anyone or anything & shes terrible publicity for PTO!!-which is what we dont need. weve been going under slowly the past few years & we really need to pick up & get some new excitement built up, nobody wants to be a part of it anymore, weve got some newbies coming in but we could probably have more if she were gone.
